Honey Quality Assurance
STATUS: CARRIED
RATIONALE / PURPOSE FOR RESOLUTION:
- Whereas…. The combination of elemental analyzer – isotope ratio mass spectrometry and liquid. chromatography – isotope ratio mass spectrometry (EA/LC – IRMS) test is the most prominent test used for honey testing in the world for three carbon (C3) sugars despite having no standard procedure and reliant on private databases in the hands of testing labs.
- Whereas…. A number of beekeepers in Canada have had issues with testing results from EA/LC-IRMS tests.
- Whereas…. The laboratory FoodQS and Federico Berron, Trade Coordinator of the LATAM Beekeeping Federation have publicly expressed concerns about the validity of this test for the detection of C3 sugars
BE IT RESOLVED THAT:
The Alberta Beekeepers work to test the accuracy of this method with True Honey Buzz and UBC with regards to testing Canadian honey with a maximum budget of $5000.
