Mitigation Protocols

RATIONALE / PURPOSE FOR RESOLUTION:

• Whereas CFIA has completed its risk assessment on importation of package bees from the mainland USA and has issued it to industry for review and comment;
  And
• Whereas CFIA has requested input from industry on potential mitigating protocols to address the risks identified in the risk assessment;
  And
• Whereas protocols that may be effective in some regions of the country, they may not be effective in other regions;
  And
• Whereas individual producers in economic duress that engage in irregular stock replacement activities threaten the industry;

BE IT RESOLVED THAT:

Be it resolved that the ABC review the risk assessment and propose effective mitigation measures, with the assumption that the importation of packages from the mainland USA will resume, to address each of the risks identified and submit them to CHC and CFIA within the comment period allotted by CFIA.
