During the 2023 season Alberta’s Tech Transfer Program (TTP) and the Government of Alberta’s Bee Health Assurance Team (BHAT) shifted towards looking directly at Varroa mite genetics. We sent mites from our surveillance programs to the National Bee Diagnostic Center to be analyzed for mutations associated with amitraz resistance.
We sampled mites collected through our Colony Health Monitoring Program. Beekeepers participating in this service with high mite levels will receive results in 2024 following analysis.
